Good morning!
Welcome to June. Perhaps this month, one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Here’s the quote:
“It’s not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see.“
– Henry David Thoreau
What I like about this quote is that it is true of itself.
We can all read this and think of different meanings or uses for it. Maybe it means that your perspective is important. Maybe it means that you should think critically and not just accept things that are presented to you. Maybe it means you should try to see opportunities where others see roadblocks. You are looking at it; what do you see?
Here’s an example of how I might put this to use: look at community associations. Look at condominiums. Look at homeowners associations. Some people see corrupt thieves taking advantage of unit owners. Some people see oppressive fiefdoms run by neighborhood nazis. Some people see responsible fiduciaries fulfilling their duties. Some people see dedicated volunteers who genuinely want to do the right thing. All those people are looking at the same thing. Why is what they see so disparate? Who is right? What should I see when I look at them?
That’s where this quote comes in. It matters what you see. So don’t just accept someone else’s view. Don’t just glance at something and decide. Really think about what you are looking at. What do you see? Why? Remember that you have control over what you see, no matter what you’re looking at.
And have a great week everybody.
