Even a Miracle Needs a Hand

Good morning. Only eight shopping days left. Hope you have Amazon prime (lord knows we do).

During the holiday season, one day, or even one week, can often bleed into the next. So I like to remember that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Here’s the quote:

Even a miracle needs a hand.

And in case you don’t recognize it, here’s the context:

If you’re “of a certain age,” you recognize this one for sure. If not, give it a quick listen; I guarantee it will be in your head the rest of the day.

But aside from a whimsical holiday song, what can this little quote provide us? Well, let’s take a quick look at the context:

The characters are in a very difficult situation. They are hoping for a very unlikely outcome, but aside from that hoping, they aren’t doing much to “help make it to be.”

That’s where the quote (and the song) come in. They decide that not only are they hoping for something, but also that they are willing to “do what’s necessary” to bring it about.

Now, despite the occasional bad press or HOA horror story you might see, I personally don’t believe that a well-functioning community association is a “miracle,” or a highly unlikely outcome. But maybe that sense of community, that day of families and neighbors and friends celebrating together, and that general camaraderie that results from a great community could be considered a miracle.

Regardless of how unlikely it seems, and regardless of how daunting or trivial the task, and regardless of those naysayers, perhaps if “we all try to help a little,” it will be that little bit of a hand that our miracle needs.

That’s what I’m challenging myself to do this week. Make my attitude a bit of “you pray, and I’ll plan.” Maybe you will choose to do the same.

Have a great week everybody.

  1. Thank you for the “ear worm.” LOL. Seriously, what a great reminder that a “can do” attitude coupled with faith can go a long way! Happy Holidays!
